Prologue
Dream Deferred
by Langston Hughes
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
“Kiss Me, Jacob!”
I looked at her with despair. What difference would it make if I kissed her or not? She was taken, and rightly so. But would I be able to live with myself if I didn’t?
Would I be able to do that to her fiancé, Edward? After a few moments of thought, something in her eyes made the answer for me. Yes, yes I could, and she wanted me to.
I took in a deep breath and strode closer to her. I wrapped my arms around her and said, softly, “Bella, my love.”
